Patient Campaign
AOTA
will begin patient campaigns to assist patients with
their fundraising efforts for their life-saving
transplant surgery and aftercare. We are excited about
our commitment to begin this new program. As each campaign
is developed, they will be listed on our web site. Campaigns
will include:
- Providing fundraising assistance
(link to below).
- Negotiating with the transplant
center and other service providers on behalf of the
patient.
- Contacting TV, radio, newspapers
and other media on behalf of the patient and AOTA.
- Writing articles and conducting
interviews on behalf of the patient.
- From the money raised, paying
for transplant expenses, including medications, such
as medical bills, travel, lodging and food, and other
expenses related to hardship as a cause of the transplant.
- Providing ongoing advice and consultation.
- Working directly with transplant
centers, hotels and airlines to ensure the lowest
cost services.
There
are many ways to raise money, but what's the
first thing you do? And, what's going to work for you?
Having someone guide and train you on this most important
endeavor provides major relief for a transplant patient,
their family and friends.
AOTA
accepts patient referrals from social workers
for fundraising assistance. Once accepted, AOTA will
provide a Fundraising Consultant that will work with
the transplant patient's family and friends to train
and guide them on how to conduct on-going fundraising.
Our
goal is to ensure that transplant patients have
money put aside for their transplant and aftercare in
order to qualify for the transplant list and to be able
to pay for the many expenses associated with their transplant.
We will create and manage a trust
account, using AOTA's
501(c)3 status so that donations are tax deductible
as allowed by law. We will keep a tally of the money
raised, pay expenses and provide a monthly accounting
of the funds.
If you are interested
in our fundraising assistance or in having AOTA
establish a trust account for your fundraising assistance
so that donations are tax deductible as allowed by law,
have your social worker or hospital transplant coordinator.
